Overview of the property
Gassho-zukuri, with its triangular gable roofs, is a unique Japanese residential architecture style found in Shirakawa-go (Ogimachi Village), Gifu Prefecture, Aikura Village in Gokayama, Toyama Prefecture, and here in Suganuma Village (a world heritage site since 1995)
The small Gassho-zukuri style houses in Suganuma Village were built on flat land between the late Edo period and the Taisho period (1912-1926). You can experience how people from different generations lived.
A five-minute walk from Suganuma Village is Gokayama Gassho-no-Sato, which features three Gassho-zukuri houses that were relocated for preservation reasons.
The kitchens and baths have been remodeled in a modern style, but there is still a lot of work to be done.
This is the only place in the world where you can rent out a single Gassho-zukuri house. Please come and experience it for yourself.

朝は確かに涼しかったのですが夕方、夜は暑かった。クーラー、扇風機は各部屋に欲しかったですね。あと網戸が所々破れていて虫が入って来ました。
古民家は趣きがあって良かったです。
The gassho house that we stayed in had just enough modern convenience to make it comfortable but still holding on to the sense of being an authentic centuries-old living environment.
The house we stayed in (not the one next to the beautiful blossoming tree in the picture, but exactly the same sort of house) was one of several in a group of similar houses of various sizes next to a large convention centre and some new bridge construction. The proximity to these very large new structures undermined the experience somewhat, but we still had a brilliant time and our host Akira was always available to help and brought superb breakfasts and dinners to our house each day.
昼、夜とまったく違う景色になり、非日常的な空間を体験することができた。
