Shinsekai, literally “New World”, is a district that was developed before the war and remained mostly untouched over the following decades offering nowadays an atmosphere of bygone days. ・Tsutenkaku Tower, the tower of Osaka
Tsutenkaku Tower is a observation tower that was built in 1912 during the Meiji Era. At that time, the 64m high tower was the highest tower in the East.
It quickly became the symbol of Sinsekai, and later, one of the many symbols of Osaka. Tsutenkaku was destroyed during a fire and then rebuilt higher. It’s now 103.5m high and equipped with an observation deck on its 5th floor that offers a splendid view of the city.
The statue of Billiken-san near Tsutenkaku Tower is said to bring good luck if you rub its feet. Don’t miss the opportunity!
Also, the round neon on top of the tower displays a weather forecast using a combination of colors (white for fair, orange for cloudy, and blue for rainy) so make sure you glance at the neon when you’re near Shinsekai!
