A private, entire-house traditional Japanese farmhouse stay, limited to one group per day, located in Sado City, Niigata, Japan.
Sadomari -Yamato no ie- is a beautifully restored kominka (traditional Japanese house), originally built in the early Meiji period.
The house was once the residence of Shuho Nagano, the first physician to introduce smallpox vaccination on Sado Island.
A stately daikokubashira (central pillar) still firmly supports the house, and guests are welcomed by the traditional “Omae (Oie)” layout—once used for ceremonies and gatherings—unique to historic Sado homes.
While conveniently located with easy access across the island, the house sits in a peaceful rural village surrounded by rice fields and nature.
On occasion, the Japanese crested ibis (Toki)—a Special Natural Monument and endangered species—can be seen flying down into the garden.
Enjoy a slow, relaxing island time in Japan while experiencing the changing scenery, sounds, and scents of the four seasons.
The dining area, kitchen, and bathrooms have been fully renovated, offering both beauty and modern comfort.
Feel the spirit of traditional Japanese living while enjoying a refined, high-quality stay.
The living room features a comfortable sofa and a modern bioethanol fireplace, blending authentic Japanese architecture with contemporary luxury.
This is a truly special experience: “Kominka × Luxury” accommodation in rural Japan.
The house offers three bedrooms gently divided by sliding fusuma doors, making it ideal for family trips, group stays with friends, and long-term stays for international travelers visiting Japan.
《The Charm of Sado Island》
Sado Island is a treasure trove of nature and history, floating in the Sea of Japan.
From the Sado Gold Mine, a UNESCO World Heritage candidate, to satoyama landscapes where the Toki ibis flies,
crystal-clear seas and a rich seasonal food culture continue to thrive here.
Sado City, far from the crowds of urban Japan, is highly regarded by travelers worldwide as a special destination where you can experience Japan’s original countryside and slow island life.
