Hishio no Sato lies in a corner of Shodoshima, and has rows of soy sauce warehouses and Tsukudani shops. Go for a stroll and take a look at the soy sauce warehouses with their black weatherboard walls, and Tsukudani factories. You will be delighted by their spicy fragrance. From the Meiji period up to the apogee of the Showa period, there were 400 soy sauce breweries. Now there are just 21 left, many of which are registered as cultural assets. Here you can feel the roots and the warmth of the Japanese people. You can also experience making Moromi broth (a fermented broth made with soy sauce)
