Motohiro and Yasuko really take care and make the stay very special.
Staying on the farm in Gunma was one of the most meaningful and memorable parts of our trip to Japan. The nature, the quiet, and the slower pace made it feel like we were stepping into a hidden treasure. Although so many things made it a highlight, what truly stood out was the incredible hospitality of the hosts. They went above and beyond to make us feel at home: they took the time to get to know us, treated us to stomachs full of sake and delicious matcha ice cream. It felt like we had our own personal guide to the area.
They took us around Gunma, showing us local spots of beauty and fun that we never would’ve found otherwise. From meeting their friendly goat, Mei Mei, to wearing traditional clothing and receiving a lesson on how to chop firewood — we were laughing at every step along the way.
Every meal was made with so much care and attention. It was clear they genuinely wanted us to experience the best of their home and lifestyle. We can’t wait to come back and stay again.
If you’re considering this farm stay, do it! No need to second think. Moto-san and Yacha-san are endearing hosts. My husband and I visited for 2 nights on our honeymoon. It felt like the perfect amount of time, although I felt sad to leave because I felt a kindred spirit with the hosts, house, and town. The farm stay is a 140+ year old treasure that is kept in pristine condition. We visited on November 17-19, and the autumn leaves were immaculate. It looked like a painting. It was the perfect climate for onsen. Moto-san Yacha-san took us to a famous waterfall to enjoy the colors, and even took us to a local market to buy snacks and enjoy a lunch prepared by Yacha-San. Her cooking is unmatched. Everything was delicious and art-like. They are amazing people, and they inspire me to be active. So far, this is the best experience I’ve ever had, and I will remember it fondly.
This was a wonderful experience. Our hosts made us feel special with their generosity and kindness. Moto-San and Yasuko-San are beautiful people who live in a beautiful house in a beautiful area of Japan. We were greeted by the friendly goat upon our arrival and waved to her on our departure. A truly magical experience.
We have wonderful time staying at Satogoro. We stayed for 3 nights and Moto-san & Yasuko-san were excellent host. The house was a traditional japanese house with tatami & futon bed, and it was surprisingly very comfortable. Yasuko-san's cooking was excellent, each meal was elaborate & prepared with care. Moto-san also brought us around the area and we really enjoyed the day trips. They also let us try kimono and samurai hakama.
Thank you for sharing with us japanese culture & for the hospitality. Our stay in Satogoro was the best part of our trip and we wish to visit again in future.
