■ About Kamikura Hideaway
Kamikura Hideaway is a private two-story house located at the foot of Kamikura Shrine, a UNESCO World Heritage site, in Shingu, Wakayama.
Built over 50 years ago at the base of the forested Mount Kamikura, this house has quietly accumulated time and memories. Rather than completely renovating it into something new, we chose to preserve its traces of history. Contemporary artist Fulbrn transformed the house into an art installation titled “Narrative Space.”
The house is imagined as the former hideaway of a geologist. Throughout the space, you will find fragments of a story: curious stones, books, a desk, letters written to someone unknown. Guests are free to look through and touch these objects, experiencing a story that seems to quietly float through the rooms—an experience different from simply reading a book.
As you wander the streets of Shingu, once walked by the geologist, and return to the study to continue the story, you may begin to feel as if you have lived here for a long time yourself.
For travelers who happen upon it, Kamikura Hideaway often becomes a favorite hidden retreat.
■ About Your Stay (One group per day / Entire house rental)
