DESCRIPTION

This experiential accommodation facility was renovated from a small mountain elementary school building. It is operated by Satoyama School Tokyo, an NPO committed to preserving mountain village culture and environmental conservation.

The entire building can be rented. It can accommodate up to 20 guests.
An additional fee applies for groups of 13 or more.

[Interior]
Two classrooms are available for use as accommodation. Cots and sleeping bags are provided. One classroom can be divided into two with a partition, or tents can be pitched inside or on the deck (tents are available for an additional fee). Beautiful seasonal views unfold from the classroom windows.

[Bathroom]
Two shower rooms are available. The popular nearby hot spring facility, Seoto no Yu, is a 25-minute drive away.

[Meals]
You will generally be cooking your own meals in the food lab (kitchen room). Outdoor cooking and BBQs are also available in the schoolyard. Meals are served in the dining room (formerly the staff room), where sunlight streams in through the windows.

[Sightseeing]
It's about a 30-minute walk (uphill) to the Kobayashi Family Residence, a nationally designated Important Cultural Property renowned for being an ancient house in the sky. Also, a 10-minute walk away is the crystal-clear mountain stream upstream of the Akigawa River, where you can splash around in the water. We also offer guided village walks and hands-on programs for those interested, allowing you to learn about the village's history, agriculture, lifestyle, and culture.

[Request]
Because of the rich natural surroundings and the old wooden building, insects and other insects may migrate between the indoor and outdoor areas. Because it's located on top of a mountain, it can get chilly in the evenings, even in the heat of summer. We have made some provisions to ensure a comfortable stay, but as this is a base for learning about the ancient lifestyle of coexistence with nature, please take care of your own health and clothing accordingly. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation.

HOUSE RULES

The Fujikura School Building is one of the few remaining wooden school buildings in Tokyo. Its location and the product of an era when local residents collaborated to build public buildings make it a valuable architectural heritage. We ask that you treat the building with care and strictly adhere to the rules of use.

[Fujikura School Building Usage Rules]
To ensure the safety and comfort of our guests, we have established rules of use. Please abide by these rules. Failure to abide by these rules may result in refusal to use the building, and in some cases, you may be held liable for damages. Please be aware of this.

Fire Prevention Measures
1. Smoking is prohibited inside the building.
2. BBQs, bonfires, and fireworks should be used in designated areas.
3. Only hand-held fireworks are permitted.
4. Fires may not be allowed on the school grounds during strong winds or when a drought warning is issued.
5. Do not leave people unattended when handling fires. Also, keep buckets of water nearby so that the fire can be quickly extinguished.
6. Portable stoves, mosquito coils, candles, and other fire-related items are not permitted in bedrooms or shared spaces (corridors and cafeterias).
7. The Food Culture Lab may be used as a simple kitchen, but cooking tempura or grilled meat, which produces large amounts of oily smoke, is prohibited.
8. Immediately after entering the building, please check the location of evacuation routes and fire extinguishers.
〇 Items to observe to ensure your safety
1. Please manage your belongings yourself. We cannot be held responsible for theft or loss of valuables within the building. Please manage your belongings responsibly, either as an individual or as a group.
2. If you would like to lock your classroom (guest room) when you go out, please speak to a staff member. Staff will lock and unlock the room for you.
3. Please be aware that parts of the hotel are surrounded by dangerous cliffs, which could be fatal if you fall, so please exercise caution. Children should not play nearby, and children should not walk in the area at night.
4. Mountain paths are extremely dangerous at night. Please do not walk on mountain paths after dark.
5. If you are going mountain climbing or hiking, please leave with plenty of time and return before dark.
6. If you are going hiking, mountain climbing, or stream climbing, please inform staff of your destination before leaving.

Regarding the building and your stay
1. The building is a valuable piece of architecture, built by local people nearly 70 years ago. It is fragile compared to modern buildings, so please be especially careful when handling glass windows and doors.
2. If you have difficulty opening or closing a window, please ask a staff member for assistance rather than forcing it.
3. Please take your trash with you when you leave. If you have difficulty taking your trash with you, please separate it and pay the garbage disposal fee.
4. To conserve energy, please conserve electricity, water, and gas.
5. Please clean up after returning the facility to its original state after use.
6. The use of tape, staples, nails, or thumbtacks on walls or glass is prohibited. Please consult with staff before posting notices.
〇 Regarding car use and parking
1. This is an area with limited parking. Please use public transportation whenever possible when visiting the museum.
2. The parking area next to the schoolyard is shared with neighbors. You can use it when available, but please do not park on the "No Parking" signs and ensure there is enough space for other vehicles to turn around.
3. If the parking area is full, please use the parking lot next to Frontier Japan's Hinohara Factory.
4. The museum is not responsible for any accidents that occur while parking.
〇 Regarding wild animals and plants
1. There is a lot of wild animal life in the surrounding area. To avoid danger and preserve the ecosystem, leaving food (including garbage) that could be eaten by wild animals is strictly prohibited.
2. Small animals such as mice may come indoors, so be sure to store snacks and other items in covered containers at night.
3. Never feed wild animals such as monkeys.
4. Please be careful of dangerous creatures such as hornets, vipers, and ticks.
5. Collecting plants in the nearby forests and grasslands for wild vegetable cooking, plant dyeing, crafts, plant observation, etc. is not permitted without the landowner's permission.
〇Information regarding usage hours
1. The schoolyard space can be used from 7:00 until check-out, and from check-in until 22:00.
