We had an amazing stay with Nakajima-san! She was a sweet and cheerful host, cooked lots of delicious food for us, put us to work in the garden and provided a truly unique experience. Would highly recommend!!
Some mornings, you wake up to find the valley below you completely covered in clouds.
That's what it's like to stay at Nakajima Farm Stay — a family-run guesthouse perched 600 meters up in the mountains of Mima, Tokushima. This is part of a Globally Important Agricultural Heritage System (GIAHS) region, and staying here means becoming part of that living tradition, even if just for a night.
■ Please read before booking
We have a resident dog at the farm (please let us know if you have pet allergies). Pajamas are not provided — please bring your own sleepwear or a change of clothes. We offer pick-up from JR Anabuki Station and Wakimachi Bus Stop (advance notice required).
■ About the stay
There are no convenience stores up here. No traffic lights. No noise.
What there is: mountain air so fresh it almost surprises you, a veranda to sit and watch the hills, and at night, a sky full of stars and the sound of insects. It's the kind of quiet that's hard to find anywhere else.
Nakajima Farm Stay opened in 2018, born from a simple wish — to share the beauty of Mima with more people. Wi-Fi is available throughout the property.
■ Farm experiences
Step into the fields and harvest vegetables with your own hands. It's simple, but it changes the way you think about food. Tools are provided free of charge, and rubber boots are available for adults (please bring your own for children).
[Seasonal harvest calendar]
Apr – May: Wild mountain vegetables, bamboo shoots
May: Potatoes, onions, garlic
Jul – Sep: Eggplant, peppers, shishito peppers
Late Aug – mid-Sep: Sudachi citrus
Oct – Nov: Yuzu citrus
Around Oct: Chestnut picking
Our hosts are happy to connect you with local community members, too — just ask.
■ Meals (2 meals included)
Dinner is a spread of local home cooking that reflects the mountain seasons — handmade pickles, fresh vegetables, and dishes you simply won't find in the city. Guests often say there's almost too much food (in the best possible way). Menus change with the season.
Breakfast is a warm, home-cooked meal to start your day right.
[Note on children's meals]
Children requiring meals are charged the same as adults regardless of age — please include them in the adult headcount when booking. Infants not requiring meals stay free.
■ Getting here
The farm is reached by a winding mountain road through the forest — consider it the beginning of the experience. We recommend arriving before dark.
By train: Take the JR Tokushima Line to Anabuki Station (approx. 1 hour from Tokushima). We'll meet you at the station — please let us know your arrival time in advance.
By car: Approx. 30 min from Anabuki Station / Approx. 90 min from Tokushima Airport / 60-70 min from Takamatsu Airport

Once you arrive you will meet the Nakajima family with Sayoko-San, an amazing lady which will light up your day and cook delicious food. She's very one of a kind and quite funny :-)

Sayoko and her pup Ichiko Were welcoming hosts. The high calibre of food she presented us was amazing, if anything too much. The weather was good for a mountain walk, taking in the scenery
From start to finish, our stay with the Nakajima family was perfect. We had some trouble getting to the farm, but our hosts were extremely patient and helpful, giving us lifts to/from the train station. The farm itself is in a beautiful remote location. It's a great place to relax and breathe the mountain air. The company is even better. The family are so kind and looked after us so well - cooking delicious meals and letting us try all kinds of delicacies. They showed us some truly magical views around the island, and we had a lot of fun chatting and meeting friends, despite the language barrier. We will treasure these memories of our stay, and would encourage everyone to visit!

If you looking for a new experience in your life and gain a great memory under a peaceful scenery Mountain View, the Nakajimas is your answer.
It was pleasant to spend my 4 days with this family, home cooked meals were amazing, never ever felt hungry in this trip. Very much recommended.
