“Tanada House” is a nostalgic countryside home—an 80‑year‑old traditional Japanese farmhouse in the Hata settlement of Takashima City—that was renovated by a self‑build project. From the engawa (veranda), you can gaze upon the rice paddies of Hata. It’s perfect for a workation too, with complimentary Wi‑Fi. Enjoy a rural pace of life that you could never experience in a hotel.
■ Room & Facilities
This is a whole-house rental (maximum 6 guests), with most areas freely available. The layout is a traditional Japanese four-room design. The house is built using paper, earth, and wood—relax comfortably on the tatami mats.
Note: Certain areas (like the kitchen and other “experience spaces”) are off-limits unless accompanied by staff.
■ Meals (optional, reservation required)
Enjoy mountain-style cuisine featuring Tanada-house rice cooked carefully in a kamado (traditional firewood stove), fresh vegetables and wild mountain plants harvested from local fields, homemade miso soup, hand-made pickles, and fish or shrimp caught in nearby Lake Biwa. Savor the flavors of Tanada House—delicacies you won’t find in restaurants.
■ Pet-Friendly
Tanada House is pet-friendly—bring your beloved dog or cat along. You’ll also be greeted by Yuki‑chi, the house cat.
Please notify us if you have cat allergies. If pets cause any damage or mess, please report it. We are not responsible for any accidents or injuries to pets.
■ Experiences
Tanada House offers a variety of “rural life experiences” depending on the season, guided kindly and carefully by owner Masako Hashimoto. See the optional programs for details.
Most Popular Plan: Miso-Making Experience
From December to March, you can make your own miso—a truly special experience. Using carefully made rice koji in our own koji room, soybeans from Takashima City, and sun-dried sea salt, you prepare the “luxury koji miso” that naturally ferments in our miso storehouse. Come and create your own sweet-style miso using our secret recipe!
