About Uku Island, Nagasaki Prefecture
Uku Island, where the "Uku Island Green Tourism Promotion Association" is located, is the northernmost island of the Goto Archipelago in Nagasaki Prefecture.
The island is bordered by a coastline of crystal clear water and white sandy beaches, including Horikawa Beach, where Nagasaki's famous artist Masashi Sada's book "The Lion Standing in the Wind" was filmed, Ohama Beach, and Shiode Beach. From above, it looks like an island floating in cobalt blue soda water. The 360-degree panoramic view from the observatory on "Jogadake," also called "Goto Fuji," is breathtaking, and on a clear day you can even see Tsushima Island. The islanders live in a rich natural environment supported by fishing and agriculture, with fresh seafood from the waters near the island and crops that grow well in the mild climate. There is no glamorous hustle and bustle of the city.
What you will find is beautiful nature as it is and delicious locally produced and consumed food,
The warmth of the islanders and the serenity of the time.
At night, you can enjoy the brightness of the moon or the stars in the sky with the roar of the sea as background music,
In the morning, enjoy the sunrise from the Sea of Goto.
Ukushima is a small island, but it is divided into three main areas: the northern part, the western part, and the town part.
Each area has a different history and culture, and each has developed its own unique way of life.
