● About this accommodation
This guesthouse is the first “Old traditional Japanese-style home-stay” in Morotsuka, which is rebuilt from a 140-year-old and 90-year-old folk house (“Shitashigi” and “Nakashigi”). It could offer a hearth, a kamado, and a Goemon bath for guests. As it located at an altitude of 650m, the surrounding area is very quiet.
* Goemon bath: a metal bathtub heated from beneath with a floating board to sit on.

● About the experience
- Making konjac (October-February)
Experience making and eating Konjac.
* Konjac: also known as Konjac or Devil's tongue, is a traditional Japanese food and is made from Konjac. Konjac is mainly grown in China, Korea, Taiwan, Japan and Southeast Asian countries. It's kind of rubbery but very healthy.
- Akumaki Making experience (All year)
Do you know Akumaki?
It is famous food in Minami Kyushu, which is cooked with glutinous rice in lye.
Guest will make Akumaki with local people, and enjoy the happy countryside time.
- Cutting Chicken experience (all year)
In Morotsuka, villagers will cut whole chicken during the New Year holiday and Obon Festival (summer holiday in Japan around August). But now, could experience all year.
Guest will handle live chickens and leave no meat or bones, this is a valuable experience which you cannot usually do.
- Making Washi experience (all year)
There is a "Morotsuka Washi Workshop" in Morotsuka Village.
The staff will tell you the ingredients of Washi and how to make Washi.
Guest will make one paper of Washi, which is unique in the world.

* The experience menu will be held by the Morotsuka Village Tourism Association.

Mt. Morotsuka is as Kamiyama since ancient times in Takachiho, also it is the place where the name of Morotsuka Village came from.
There are more than a dozen circular burial mounds on the summit, which is said to be the reason why it is called "Morotsuka".
Every year on the first Sunday of March, the "Morotsuka Mountain Opening" event is held as "Japan's earliest mountain opening".
Guests can also enjoy beautiful azaleas when visiting from late April to early May.
