Tucked away deep in the mountains of Kyotango, Kyoto – and then deeper still – stands "Hokkori," a 180-year-old traditional Japanese farmhouse (kominka).
Opened in 2009, this farm stay welcomes only one group per day, so families and groups can relax and enjoy the slow life without a care.
■ The original landscape of Japan through the four seasons and a quiet satoyama
Listen closely and you'll hear the Japanese bush warbler; once rice planting is done, a great chorus of frogs fills the air. Genji fireflies dance in early summer, white buckwheat flowers bloom across the fields in autumn, and winter brings a silent snowy world. Surrounded by the original landscape of Japan that you'll never find in the city, return to your true self and let all five senses be soothed.
■ Rustic country cooking around the irori hearth & homemade doburoku
We prepare country dishes (optional) using the blessings of this land: vegetables grown only with our own organic fertilizer, homegrown rice, seasonal seafood, wild mountain vegetables and mushrooms. Take it slow and easy with two kinds of "doburoku" (unfiltered sake), sweet and dry, brewed from our own rice.
■ Many ways to unwind
・Gather around the irori with good friends and talk while grilling fish such as amago (red-spotted masu trout).
・Discover a simple country life and a rich way to spend time without spending much money.

We serve rustic country dishes made with ingredients only this land can offer: homegrown vegetables and rice raised with organic fertilizer, seasonal seafood, wild mountain vegetables and mushrooms. Enjoy your meal while chatting merrily around the irori.
We can also prepare a breakfast based on Kyotango City's "Longevity Recipes." Savor healthy, deeply flavorful dishes that make full use of freshly picked vegetables and seasonal ingredients.
【Self-catering】
・For self-catering, our homegrown vegetables and rice can be prepared if you book in advance (depending on the season).
【Homemade doburoku】
Kyotango City was designated a "Doburoku Special Zone" in 2010, and Hokkori obtained its brewing license in 2011. Our doburoku is brewed with pure spring water and rice we grow ourselves. We offer two types: a sweet one popular with women and a dry one for connoisseurs.
