“Farmstay Herbal Tei” is located in Ayabe City, northern Kyoto.
It is about a one-hour train or car ride from Kyoto City and is surrounded by rich nature.
The accommodation is a traditional Japanese farmhouse over 100 years old, renovated for guests. It offers exclusive use for one group per day, with a maximum of four guests including two meals.
The hosts, a couple and their dog, live on the property and warmly welcome guests, fostering a friendly homestay atmosphere. Relax comfortably in this rural home as if you were staying with family.
Facilities and Property
The site includes the main house, a guest “detached” building, a garden house, and a handmade pizza oven.
The vegetable garden grows organic vegetables and herbs for the household.
There is also a handmade garden cultivated from reclaimed land where guests can enjoy herbs and seasonal flowers.
Seasonal activities available include farm work, wild vegetable picking, firewood chopping, river play, satoyama walking, and herb crafts—offering a slow-life experience and immersion in rural living.
If you prefer, you can also simply relax and refresh your mind and body surrounded by nature, enjoying the seasonal changing scenery.
Accommodation Plan
One group per day only, up to 4 guests, including two meals (meals included in the price).
Dinner is served in the shared space of the main house; breakfast is served in the garden house.
Pizza-making and barbecue meals are served outdoors.
Meals use home-grown vegetables and local ingredients cooked in a homestyle manner.
Please inform us in advance if you have any food allergies.
Vegan meals are not available.
Joint cooking with guests is welcome; please inquire.
Cooking in the kitchen by guests is not permitted.
Room Details
You will have exclusive use of two rooms in the detached building: an 8-tatami room and a 6-tatami room.
The detached building is connected to the main house by an indoor corridor.
The rooms are traditional Japanese-style with fusuma sliding doors, which can be opened for a spacious feel.
There is a door at the entrance, but no lock.
The detached building has a private washbasin, air conditioning, and a small refrigerator. The toilet and bath are shared with the main house.
Please bring your own toiletries, bath towels, and pajamas.
The host couple and dog live in a private room in the main house, and many facilities there are shared.
For bathing, we recommend the nearby Ayabe Onsen (about 15 minutes by car).
You are free to use the living room, garden house, and garden during your stay.
Shared areas are available until 10 PM (excluding toilets and washbasins).
