I went to the magari-ya village before arriving to the Yamada home so I could notice the features of the house style. It is a unique stay as it is of historic value but is a private home. We gathered meal ingredients from the garden and made kuri-shibori confection from chestnuts picked in the yard. Wasabi is cultivated all around watered by the cold mountain stream water. We had pleasant conversations, excellent meals, and nice hot bath at night. They also have a cafe in the back that carries locally made items. Directions were tricky but the home is very close by to inari-ana. The home is up in the mountains and is very peaceful. The Yamada family are wonderful hosts and it is a special treat to be able to stay in a home of cultural value that are disappearing.

■ Old house about 200 years old ■
Tono City, Iwate Prefecture retains a strong sense of the original scenery of Japan. I moved from Sendai and am staying in an old-fashioned old folk house called "Nambu Benriya". "Nambu Bendhouse" is a Japan house with a main house and a horse stall in an L-shape. It is a building that preserves the history of Tono, which once cherished horses as if they were a family.
■ Live carefully one day at a time ■
The necessities of life are repaired or handmade. What we can do is dare to enjoy a life that takes time and effort. A comfortable life starts with accumulating your "likes". From growing vegetables to cooking and interacting with visitors, everything is carefully tackled in the Furuya Yaemon style.
■ Eat Nature ■
There is a field behind the bend house, where various types of vegetables such as bitter melon and tomatoes and fruits such as peaches and blackberries are grown. At every meal, we offer a side dish made with freshly picked vegetables that are homemade. I carefully serve it in my favorite bowl to make mealtime even more enjoyable.
■ Ancient folk house experience ■
What do you imagine when you hear the phrase "living in an old house"? You can spend a relaxing time doing nothing, and if you wish, you can enjoy farming in the vegetable garden, watching the constellations, chopping firewood, etc. At that time, you can experience the four seasons, so you can enjoy something different whenever you come. 南部曲り家で昔の暮らしに思いを馳せる素晴らしい滞在
南部曲り家に実際に宿泊するという体験は、なかなかできるものではなく、素晴らしい滞在となりました。オーナーご夫妻が、古民家の良さを最大限残されながら丁寧に手を入れられた家屋は、昔の暮らしに思いを馳せることができ、また調度品のセンスも素晴らしく、本当に心地よいものでした。
自家製のお野菜やお味噌などで作られたお食事も大変美味しかったです。
何と言ってもオーナーご夫妻とのおしゃべりが楽しく、古いものの良さと丁寧な暮らしをこの曲がり屋を通して発信されている姿に、大いに元気と、今後の自分の人生を考える上での勇気を頂きました。
