I went to the magari-ya village before arriving to the Yamada home so I could notice the features of the house style. It is a unique stay as it is of historic value but is a private home. We gathered meal ingredients from the garden and made kuri-shibori confection from chestnuts picked in the yard. Wasabi is cultivated all around watered by the cold mountain stream water. We had pleasant conversations, excellent meals, and nice hot bath at night. They also have a cafe in the back that carries locally made items. Directions were tricky but the home is very close by to inari-ana. The home is up in the mountains and is very peaceful. The Yamada family are wonderful hosts and it is a special treat to be able to stay in a home of cultural value that are disappearing.

■An old folk house built about 200 years ago■
Tono City, Iwate Prefecture retains the nostalgic original scenery of Japan. I moved from Sendai and live in an old-fashioned old private house called "Nanbu Bending House". "Nanbu Bending House" is a Japanese house with a main house and stable connected in an L shape. It is a building that preserves the history of Tono, which once cherished horses as workers as if they were family.

We repair and make things we need for our lives. What we can do is enjoy a life that dares to spend time and effort. A comfortable life starts with accumulating your "likes". Growing vegetables, cooking, interacting with visitors, and everything else is carefully tackled in the Furuya Yaemon style.

南部曲り家で昔の暮らしに思いを馳せる素晴らしい滞在
南部曲り家に実際に宿泊するという体験は、なかなかできるものではなく、素晴らしい滞在となりました。オーナーご夫妻が、古民家の良さを最大限残されながら丁寧に手を入れられた家屋は、昔の暮らしに思いを馳せることができ、また調度品のセンスも素晴らしく、本当に心地よいものでした。
自家製のお野菜やお味噌などで作られたお食事も大変美味しかったです。
何と言ってもオーナーご夫妻とのおしゃべりが楽しく、古いものの良さと丁寧な暮らしをこの曲がり屋を通して発信されている姿に、大いに元気と、今後の自分の人生を考える上での勇気を頂きました。
