●About Aki Kokubunji Temple
Aki Kokubunji Temple is an ancient temple built 1,300 years ago by an imperial decree of Emperor Shomu.
Even today, historic sites from that time still remain within the precincts of the temple, offering a glimpse into the temple's history. The Niomon Gate, said to have been built in the Muromachi Period, and the Gomado Hall, built in the late Edo Period, are designated as important cultural properties by Higashi-Hiroshima City, as are the two Yakushi Nyorai statues in the Yakushido Hall, which are the principal images.
