This kominka, with over 120 years of history, has been fully renovated for modern comfort. The solid presence of the original wooden beams blends harmoniously with the gentle fragrance of new Oguni cedar, creating a space that is both pristine and deeply calming.
– About “yori-toko” –
Originally built in 1904, this historic house had already stood for 118 years as of 2019. Through the eras of Meiji, Taishō, Shōwa, Heisei, and now Reiwa, it quietly watched over the community. Yet for nearly 40 years, it remained unoccupied.
Once a beloved gathering place where local children came to study and play, the house has now been carefully brought back to life. Restored to reflect its original form, it has been reborn as Fukuchi no Yado Café yori-toko.
The name “yori-toko” carries the owner’s heartfelt wish that, just as this place was once cherished as a welcoming stop-by spot, it will continue to be a warm and inviting space where people naturally come together.
With reinforced foundations and modern insulation, the house now offers a comfortable stay suited to today’s climate, while preserving the charm and spirit of its long history.
