"Kumagera No Iie" Abandoned School Stay

Our guesthouse was used as a principal's dormitory of Hitotsumori Elementary School in Ajigasawa Town until 2003.

The building was reconstructed to be a facility where students can stay in one building.

It is a nostalgic building with a wooden structure that allows you to go back in time to Showa era.

Shirakami Aroma Research Institute is also located in the main building.
The inn is filled with the aroma of Shirakami.


In the classroom in the main dormitory, you can listen to stories about the history, vegetation, and matagi (hunters) of the Shirakami Mountains, a World Heritage Site.

Aroma oil is extracted from Oba-kromoji, a shrub of Shirakami.
It is also possible to receive an aroma treatment.

The farmhouse restaurant Shirakami is a great place to enjoy the taste of Shirakami.

This is a nostalgic inn with a retro feel, using an abandoned school building.

About the rooms
The rooms are rented as a single guest house.
　There are three Japanese-style rooms with kitchen, bath, and toilet facilities.

　　We will guide you on a course (more than 1 hour) to experience the beech forests of the nearby Shirakami mountain range.

Farmhouse Restaurant "Shirakami" Menu
　Dinner and breakfast are served at the farmhouse restaurant "Shirakami".

Spring Menu
Spring wild vegetables are added to the regular menu for both dinner and breakfast.

Winter Menu
The menu for both dinner and breakfast will change to a menu using preserved foods.

For an additional fee, we offer Shirakami Gozen and Shirakami Zen, which are local dishes.
We also offer Ajigasawa's specialty squid, and "grilled golden ayu" and "simmered golden ayu" which are caught in Akaishikawa.
Shirakami Green Curry" is also a specialty of the restaurant.
Every year in January, we open a stall at the Aomori Curry Festival held at the Aomori Prefectural Tourism and Product Center.


We can also accommodate allergies in advance. Special menu: Shirakami's "Kuma Nabe" will be served at market price.

About water facilities
As this is a former elementary school, toilets, bathrooms, and washing machines are shared by the owners and staff of the Aroma Institute.

The bath is a Chromogearoma bath.
The sweetness of the Chromoge from the Shirakami mountain range is soothing and harmonious with the floral scent.
It is a fragrance that will help you to heal your fatigue.
It stabilizes daily stress and tension, relaxes the mind, and at the same time, has a positive effect on the body.

It is more than 30 minutes away from the town, so there are no restaurants nearby, but there is a karaoke bar at the farmhouse restaurant Shirakami.

Why did you start a homestay?
While the number of visitors to the World Heritage Site Shirakami Sanchi is increasing, there are not many accommodations near the mountain.
Through Shirakami Nature School's guiding, nature experience, lodging, and meals, we hope to provide a place where visitors can spend quality time and enjoy themselves.
We thought of providing a place for visitors to spend time and enjoy themselves through guiding, experiencing nature, staying overnight, and eating.
After talking with local farmers, we decided to start it.

Our town is a world heritage town. If you want to enter a World Heritage Site, you need to submit a "Forest Entry Permit" 7 days in advance.
