"Kumagera No Ie" Renovated School Stay

This is a one-storied elementary school in Ajigasawa town, which was used until 2003 and renovated into a Showa-era style guest house.

In the classrooms, you can learn about the history of the Shirakami Mountains, the vegetation, and the history of the world heritage site, as well as the history of matagi ( traditional Winter hunters).

[Experiences]
-Aromatherapy treatments are also available. (Reservation required) Aroma oil is extracted from a shrubbery of the white god, the great white birch tree.

Also, as an option, Prince Mitsunobu Oura, the founder of Tsugaru, went out from Tanesato Castle.
Strolling along the Historical Romance Road, which is an ancient road that was used to unify the present-day Tsugaru region, "Shirakami Sanchi
Trekking" and a course to experience the beech forest in the nearby World Heritage Site Shirakami Mountains (more than 1 hour) are available.

The farmhouse restaurant "Shirakami" also offers a taste of the local land. Unlike most ryokans, this inn has a retro feel that used to be a closed school building.

There are no restaurants nearby as we are more than 30 minutes away from the town, but we have a farmhouse restaurant "Shirakami."

[Why we started staying in private homes]
As the number of visitors to the World Heritage Shirakami Mountains increases, there are often few lodging facilities in the vicinity of the mountains.
The Hakushin Nature School provides guides, nature experiences, lodging, and meals to help visitors spend more time with their family and friends.
The local farmers gathered together and decided to build a guest house for travelers.

Requests to Guests
Our town is a World Heritage Site. If you want to enter a natural heritage site, you need to apply for a "forest entry permit".
As you have to submit the form 7 days in advance, you can submit it on the internet before entering the mountain.
Please download the form and submit it to the Tsugaru Regional Forest Office.
