Welcome to Guesthouse Makura!
The 90 years old guesthouse is located in the center of Nara, in a traditional house called a “machiya” that was built in the early Showa Era.
The machiya’s traditional architecture and decor create a peaceful atmosphere, and the quiet alleys behind the house provide the perfect environment for endless strolls.
Guesthouse Makura is also close to Nara Station and Nara Park, but also to several sightseeing attractions such as Todai-ji Temple, Kofuku-ji Temple, Gango-ji Temple and Kasuga-taisha Shrine (Kasuga Grand Shrine), all of which are easily reachable on foot.

Since the rooms have sliding walls and mobile room dividers it’s possible to transform the rooms into a large one for groups of more than 3 women or 4 men.
Please contact us in advance as the possibility to rearrange the rooms depends on the availability of all rooms.

Guesthouse Makura is a 8 minutes’ walk from Nara Station (subway and JR lines) and a 1 minute walk from the Sarusawa Pond.
※Please contact us before booking if you’re planning on coming by car or motorbike. There is only 1 car parking space on our (free) parking.
※Please let us know at the moment of the reservation if you need to store your luggage before the check-in time.
※Please contact us early if you’re going to check in after 22:00. Otherwise, if we still haven’t heard from you after 22:00 your reservation will be cancelled, so please be careful.
※Please do not eat or drink in the dormitory rooms. You can bring food and beverages in the common areas on the 1st floor and in the private room only.
※Please watch and take care of your belongings. There are lockers if you need, but they are simple lockers. We will not be responsible for the theft or loss of your belongings during your stay.
※Smoking is not allowed inside the guesthouse.
※Curfew at 1:00am
Since it’s a very small guesthouse we ask you to respect the curfew so as to not disturb other guests.
