Surrounded by lush pine forests and streams, this secluded country house is the perfect escape to experience traditional Japanese rural life – Welcome to BAKKE. Situated in a hilly area, far away from city life, take your time to explore the wild surroundings, take hikes through the dense forests, cycle to the local temples, or simply enjoy the tranquil silence surrounded by nature. https://bakke.jp/
The property itself is an old farmhouse that once used to house a local farming family. When you first enter the house, you will find a big ‘kotatsu’ (traditional leg heating device). Adjacent to this is another living room with sofas and a beautiful view of the river – enjoy a warm cup of tea while listening to the flowing water. There are two connected tatami rooms surrounded by a long corridor facing a court. On the upper floor there are two independent tatami rooms which you can use as bedrooms.
The house provides ten sets of Futons/duvets and a washing/drying machine. There is a fully equipped kitchen with facilities including an oven, gas stoves, microwave, rice cooker, fridge/freezer and a huge selection of tableware. You will find top-of-the-range bicycles of different sizes for exploration of the area. Feel free to pick vegetables from the surrounding field!

If you would like to make your own way there, check-in can be done between 10:00 and 16:00.
<nature>
You really will be staying close to nature – and with that comes the responsibility of being cautious. There are opportunities to encounter very rare wild animals and beautiful insects indigenous to Japan but please note that there is also the chance you may encounter venomous snakes or hornets.
<Self-catering>
There is only one place where you can eat out within walking distance, but the kitchen has everything you need to cook with. If you like, we can stop by the supermarket on the way to the house to stock up on ingredients (seasonings, rice, tea & coffee)
The nearest convenience store is 6km away and there is a Japanese restaurant and supermarket 10km away - to Roadside Station Rinrinkan where you can get some fresh vegetables and other ingredients, and eat a light meal. This takes approximately 15 minutes cycling.
